SMSTS courses delivered in a physical classroom with paper based exam
The SMSTS is a prerequisite qualification for site managers working on a UK construction site. The SMSTS face-to-face classroom based course can also be taken by project managers, supervisors, business owners and clients. This is because taking the SMSTS course gives you an understanding of the practicalities and legal obligations of managing health, safety, welfare and environmental issues on a construction site.
5 Day Block SMSTS Classroom Based Courses Liverpool
CITB site safety training courses are critical to anyone who has a role on site as they help to demonstrate competence, which is why you must ensure you take extra steps to ensure the knowledge is meaningfully passed on. This is why many people prefer a classroom based learning environment to study the Site Management Safety Training Scheme and get their SMSTS Certificate.
Attending an SMSTS Classroom Based Course
The SMSTS course, or Site Management Safety Training Scheme, is a qualification created by CITB to establish a clear industry-wide standard for the management of health and safety on construction sites. An SMSTS qualification is shown in the Approved Code of Practice for Construction Regulations, it is considered to be a key requirement for anyone who wants to be a site manager.
SMSTS Course Mandatory Entry Requirements
► To be able to read, write and understand English to a good level. Please contact us if you have any concerns in this area
► You will need to provide a valid photo ID on the first day of the course, such as a copy of your passport or driving licence
► If you need to re-sit the test, you must do this within 90 days of the original course date at an additional charge
Liverpool SMSTS classroom based courses
► Taught in a classroom, by expert trainers in an engaging format, to ensure the delegates acquire the relevant knowledge and training experience.
► SMSTS is a 5 day course with a paper based exam on day 5
► Certification for the SMSTS course is valid for 5 years.
► To remain certified in this area, you will need to take an SMSTS Refresher course before the expiry date on your certificate, otherwise the full course will need to be retaken.

Getting ready for the SMSTS course in a classroom
The 5 day SMSTS course (Site Management Safety Training Scheme) - is delivered in by an expert trainer. The learning materials are structured and delivered in a format to get you familiar to the new CITB exam paper and questions.
SMSTS pre-course preparation
You'll need pens, note book and to plan your journey, as the course will start promptly.
SMSTS course agenda
This is a highly interactive 'face-to-face course' taught through case studies, classroom discussion, group work and individual or group presentations. You will need to do some self-study outside the course.

► Theory Test – A number of multiple choice and written questions, delegates must score 81% or more to pass
SMSTS course agenda when studying in a classroom
On day 5 you will complete an exam
► Individual SMSTS exam papers are assigned to each course being taught.
► On the day of your exam the tutor will hand out an exam paper. The tutor will guide all delegates through the exam and exam process to ensure everyone understands how to complete the exam paper.
► The exam paper is made up of two parts and you have 35 minutes to complete the exam.
Part A - 18 multiple choice questions worth one mark each
Part B - 7 written questions worth two marks each
After 20 minutes - you are allowed to access your downloads/notes to help validate or support your answers.
Sameday marking and results of your SMSTS course exam
► Your completed exam paper is marked by your SMSTS course tutor the day of the exam, this can take 40-60 minutes to complete the process.
You will have three possible outcomes:
► 81% or more gives you a PASS
► Score 71% or less and you will need to resit the whole course.
► Score anything between 72% - 80% and you will be able to resit the exam that day. You get one more chance to achieve a pass. There is a different dedicated SMSTS re-sit exam allocated which is different to the exam taken earlier. If you fail to achive a pass, you will need to resit the whole course.
If successful you will receive your digital certificate within 2 weeks.
At the end of the SMSTS course you will be able to:
► Implement all health, safety, welfare and environmental legislation affecting your daily work
► Implement new guidance and industry best practice
► State your duties and responsibilities with regards to health, safety, welfare and the environment
Certification for the SMSTS course is valid for 5 years.
To remain certified in this area, you will need to take an SMSTS refresher course before the expiry date on your certificate, otherwise the full course will need to be retaken.
► The SMSTS course is endorsed by Build UK as the standard training for all construction managers.
